Nestled into the heart of outback Australia, our flagship accommodation ‘The Sky Suites’ at Callubri Station is a unique blend of rugged outback heritage and modern luxury lodge style. The sanctuary of the station offers a tonic for the modern day and a genuine sense of place that is unapologetically Aussie!
Unique Accommodation in the Heart of Outback Australia
Standing as a testament to the necessity for ‘outback innovation’, our Sky Suites reimagine the traditional station stay! By refurbishing shipping containers, often used to transport our grain by rail, into high-end, luxury lodge suites, we celebrate not only sustainable modern design but also a strong sense of history and place.
This architectural story was not by accident, but born from a deep respect for nature, and an acceptance that this historical site will on rare occasions flood! In the outback, the river is our lifeblood, but it is also a force that demands a humble partnership. For the early pioneers of the Australian outback, water was both a lifeline and a primary architect. The historical practice of settling along the riverbank was a matter of survival, where the proximity to a reliable water source dictated the placement of every homestead. Today, this proximity requires a unique brand of frontier ingenuity, and a respectful negotiation with the elements that inform our modern architectural landscape.
By elevating our sanctuary, we have risen above the elements, transforming a necessity for resilience into a vantage point of pure serenity. The result is a truly immersive perspective; from the curated comfort of your bed, the vast, unbroken horizon of the Australian outback becomes your personal gallery. It is a high-ground haven where the raw beauty of the plains meets the effortless luxury of a room designed to invite the landscape in.
And rest assured, while the Bogan River is our lifeblood, significant water events are rare, occurring only very occasionally across the decades! Unlike the flooding of hilly regions, a rise on the plains is a gentle, meditative transformation, more akin to a vast, shallow mirror stretching across the horizon. Because the terrain is so level, we receive more than a week’s notice before the water reaches our boundaries, allowing plenty of time to adjust plans. And most of the time our property is bordering on drought!
