Relax on the Trays of the ‘Thames Traders’
The real showstoppers here are the two incredible outdoor decks built directly onto the trays of our old British “Thames Trader” trucks. It is the ultimate spot to kick back with a sundowner while the kids explore, swap stories about the day’s adventures with Farmer Mike, or simply watch the outback sky transition from a dusty pink sunset into a canopy of a million stars.
Whether you are here to unplug, reconnect, or give the family a taste of authentic station life, The Lorries promises a one-of-a-kind stay filled with laughter, luxury, and true country hospitality.

Is an outback station stay safe and practical for families travelling with toddlers and young children?
Absolutely. While a working 28,500-acre station sounds wild, places like Callubri Station are beautifully set up to give families a secure, stress-free base camp. The Lorries are specifically built with families and young kids in mind, offering the convenience of full kitchen facilities for quick toddler meals, dedicated laundry zones, and fully enclosed outdoor spaces. The beauty of a luxury farm stay is that the adventure is right on your doorstep, so you can skip the long, exhausting day trips and let the kids discover real farm animals, native birdlife, and wide-open spaces at a pace that respects afternoon nap times.
What makes “The Lorries” design uniquely suited for a family of up to four kids?
The Lorries balances practical design with an undeniable sense of nostalgic fun. Built right behind two vintage Thames Trader farm trucks, the layout keeps the whole crew close while preserving distinct pockets of privacy. The master bedroom features a plush queen bed alongside a lounge chair that smoothly transitions into a single futon for a younger child. The versatile second bedroom can be set as either a luxurious king or split into two long singles, and the central bathroom features a rain shower ideal for rinsing off the day’s red dirt. The real magic, however, lies just outside: the truck beds have been transformed into private enclosed decks, offering a playful, contained space where parents can sip a chilled local wine while keeping a close eye on the kids.
How do daily station activities accommodate younger children without losing the premium feel?
True luxury is all bout seamless flexibility. Instead of rigid tour schedules, family-friendly station stays adapt the outback experience to match your family’s dynamic. Daily hosted tours are conducted safari-style inside a rugged, yet comfortable Landcruiser Troop Carrier, meaning little legs don’t get tired, and kids stay safe and secure while spotting wild kangaroos, emus, and giant tractors! Activities are highly interactive and tactile, think walking through historic hand-hewn woolsheds, learning about fluffy Merino wool, and exploring tasty market gardens. If the weather acts up or the kids need some quiet downtime, we have an indoor library, board games, and movie setups to keep them entirely entertained, whilst the parents can enjoy a quiet coffee or wine on the chesterfields!
Can the dining experiences accommodate picky eaters while still delivering a high-end gourmet menu for adults?
Absolutely! You do not have to sacrifice delicious dining just because you are travelling with children. Our delivered options give you the complete freedom to serve family favorites (think home-made sausage rolls, pasta and soup!) in your own kitchen with close to no effort. (Heat and eat!) However, if you choose to elevate your stay and join the homestead table, the culinary experience is anchored in warm country hospitality rather than stiff formality. Chef Angie crafts seasonal menus using organic homegrown produce and grass-fed station lamb that can be easily tailored to all tastes. Having a good yarn prior to your arrival allows meals to be adapted to keep the kids happily fed with wholesome, farm-fresh dishes while adults indulge in a rustic seasonal feast.
